I have heard many people lately on the subject of COVID19 who claim that the world will never be the same, that it will make a chapter in history books, and we will see a different planet after Coronavirus. But, excuse my skepticism, isn’t it true that for the world to renew itself, we ourselves have to do it first, and talk about how we will carry it out?
I see that people continue to put the hopes of a better tomorrow in the hands of someone else. The virus does not come to teach governments, nor companies - least of all, your boss - how to be different; it hasn’t come to make the world evolve, its mission is not to end humanity ... it is not a freaking divine punishment and it is not one of the plagues of the apocalypse; it is simply a virus that shows us that we live in a connected world, that everything and everyone depends on everyone else, but it will not teach us anything.
It is our personal responsibility to evaluate ourselves, to ask ourselves, what am I going to do with this? Some blame "capitalism" for polluting the world... Wait… Aren’t consumers, employees, businessmen, rulers ... humans to blame?
Stop questioning yourself whether a superior being "is testing us", us?!... In any case, he is testing you! Take advantage of that belief and answer yourself, what the hell am I going to do with this?
Assume your own responsibility in personal hygiene: how many people did one person's carelessness infect? … Ah, but since it was not you, it is very easy to throw the stone and not even attempt to hide your hand. It turns out that we all think we are superior to the rest ... "It’s the others ..." "I am very good"Come-the-fuck-on! We must, in the first place, be cleaner (please wash your hands and don't sneeze on each other’s faces); and secondly, let's be more humane, how do we expect the world to renew itself with people who attack our health professionals? How do we expect something to change if we continue to crowd the stores and markets? If we are not able to even maintain the healthy distance of 1.5 meters while standing in line.
It is not that I am a pessimistic, this is a call to action: assume your responsibility to change the world, instead of saying "the world will be different". Share with yours how it is that you and your environment will be different. What will change at home? What will change at work? What will change in your habits?
This virus affects especially people with obesity and diabetes. It is more than reasonable that our leaders are scared if in Mexico, 6 out of 10 people are obese, 27 die from diabetes per hour... Picture this: a virus that can cause pneumonia in 6 out of 10 Mexicans. Then, isn’t it obvious that we should modify our eating habits? People I know who used to exercise before isolation, simply stopped doing it ... "When all this finishes, I’ll start exercising again”. Do you think we will be different just because of an illness? Please: doubt, think we won’t, but above all, assume that this cannot go on; take action to be an agent of change, so that we, skeptics, pessimists, realists... are really able to change the world.
